In spring of 2011, residents of Windsor, Ontario, Canada began hearing and feeling unexplained humming and vibrating noises. Currently the source can’t be positively located.
It’s described as an idling diesel engine that keeps people awake at night. Some people have claimed it can cause physical symptoms. The noises is said to happen mostly late at night or early morning.
Here is a great video of tormented residents.
An older interview is here. A woman describes it as rattling the picture on her wall.
An earlier government study claimed the vibrations were coming from Zug Island, an industrial area right across the US border from Windsor. See here. Zug Island is a highly secure and guarded island protected by the US government. Some Youtube videos that someone made showing a sound meter pointed toward the island have been removed. I would imaging it’s illegal to point anything at a government protected facility. In certain places in the US you can’t even take pictures of bridges.
According to this article here, The University of Windsor is now doing a government funded study using something called a pentangular array. The device will concentrate on tracing the low frequency of the hum. The study will take 10 months to complete. Since a previous study suggested Zug Island, what will be done if the array proves it to be the source. I seriously doubt anything will be done at all.
I’ve been following the story of unexplained noise in Kerry and Derry since last month. For background you should read this post here. Kerry and Derry are on the opposite ends of Ireland with Derry to the north and Kerry to the south. They’ve been experiencing completely different sounds that are described as “annoying”. What’s particularly odd in my opinion is that they’re completely different types of noise. One is described as sounding like a helicopter and the other as being more like a hum. It seems weird that Ireland is experiencing two different unexplained disturbances in opposite areas at the same time. I’m not sure what this means if anything.
Deputy Healy-Rae said that people were being disrupted by the “very unusual and very annoying” noise and that one family in particular were “driven demented” by it.
One gets a mental image of a family being taken away in a paddy wagon.
Having begun last April, people as far as 25 kilometer have reported hearing it. The local government there is taking it seriously. This is very much like the Windsor hum, see here. According to the article the noise can’t be recorded, but finally someone has recorded audio waves and replicated the sound.
For the first time we have not only a video of a local resident describing the mystery noise, but also a replication of the hum. Barry Lynch says he doesn’t believe it’s supernatural.
Below is a video of the hum. Apparently the audio waves can be recorded but they’re so low frequency it’s very hard to hear. What you’re hearing is a “replica”.
So this brings us to Derry, it’s an odd coincidence how they rhyme. They’re not hearing a “hum”. Their nuisance comes in the form of what’s described as an aircraft noise occurring at night. No one is taking blame and no one can see an airplane. They have ruled out local commercial flights and geological survey planes. The government there is also taking it seriously.
An odd “stuck horn” sound was heard in Edmonton, Alberta on March 12th from 3:30am to 5:30am.
When I came across the first of these three videos I just figured it was industrial or construction noise. But then two more popped up all recorded by different people. For some reason the witnesses thought this was more than just construction noise. That’s what it sounds like to me, but I can’t totally dismiss it because three people thought it was loud enough and strange enough to take the time to record and post it to youtube.
In reading the YT comments I was able to determine where exactly the sound was heard and the approximate radius. Three areas were mentioned within a four mile radius. The areas are West Wood, Inglewood/Westmount and Kingsway. I’ve pinpointed these on a map. One thing that really puts this sky noise into doubt is its location right next to an airport. It’s suggested that it’s an excavating machine called a hydrovac (see video below).
Although I feel this is some sort of machinery, here are the YT comments below anyway. You be the judge.
Live in West Wood area, heard this for several hours. Was almost deafening. Drive my dogs absolutely crazy… Anyone know what it was?
A buddy of mine near you sent me a vid this morning of the same sound. Very weird. Sounds like it could almost be an oversized hydrovac. He said it went on for over 2 hours.
This one below is the most intriguing comment:
This sound started at 3:30 am and lasted till 5:30 am. I walked my dog out around the area for over an hour to see what it was, and it seemed the sound was coming from the North West. A low rumbling sound..kind of like a large helicopter and over top of that sound is what you can hear the most..the high pitch “E”
According to this article here, residents of Kerry, Ireland are being plagued by a nocturnal noise that’s disrupting their sleep. The noise started in April 2011 and hasn’t subsided since. They seem to be experiencing a low-frequency hum not unlike the Windsor hum here. The residents are begging the government to investigate but the sound can’t be pinpointed. There is no obvious source such as windmills or generators in the area. The complaints have spanned a 7km radius.
From the article:
“It’s absolutely wearing us down and we are crying out for a good night’s sleep before our health starts to give,” said Mr Lynch.
Of course we can’t help but make the connection between Kerry and Derry. I recently posted about a similar situation in Derry, which is 350 miles away on the opposite south side of Ireland. In this article here from February 22nd, residents are experiencing the exact same problem. The noise in Derry is described as a buzzing noise and it too is keeping the folks awake.
From the article:
“I have received a number of calls from concerned residents who have been unsettled and whose sleeping pattern is being affected by what can only be described as a relentless and disturbing buzzing noise in the Derry sky over recent days,” he says.
Derry, Kerry, Waterford City and County Armagh
I found a chat board called Boards.ie from Ireland that has some interesting comments in the Waterford City section. This town is 100 miles from Kerry.
From the comments:
It was like a continuous roar of air with high pitched whine. it lasted about 5 minutes. started quiet, then got louder and louder until it sounded like it was overhead, then quieted down and seemed to be moving away. We couldn’t see any lights or plane or anything. It is headed towards the town.
Calling all insomniacs! Would you mind sticking yer heads out the window and see can you see anything? Really freaked out here! o_O
And another commenter says:
Have just heard that they said on 2fm that an army helicopter would be flying over Ireland tonight. They said it would sound like a humming noise. This sounded like a roar of pressurized air, or a really loud powerhose. Only really really loud.
The government is claiming, as it did in Derry, that it’s related to helicoptors. Why would a radio station (2fm) tell people a helicoptor was going to fly over and would sound like a humming noise? Since when does a helicoptor sound like a hum?
Looks like people are really focusing on Zug Island as a source of the Windsor Hum. Zug Island is right across the water from Windsor. This video below has an excellent example of the sound that’s been boosted to allow us to hear it. There’s little interest by the governments of Canada or the US to do anything about this nuisance. This is because of economic and political reasons. If you don’t know the history read this post here and here.
This video below is pointed directly at Zug Island and he says the camera doesn’t do a good job of recording the vibration. I’m not sure what I’m hearing. He says people are complaining about lack of sleep, migraines, dizziness, concentration problems, earaches and nausea. I believe this because if you’re exposed to a vibration you can actually feel in your body all the time, it would have to have some sort of effect. He says it’s getting louder and has become more distinct over the last two years.
I find it interesting that the area it’s supposedly coming from is a high security area under Homeland Security. Now why would that be? What are they making there. No one knows but I bet it isn’t good. It even has strict limitations on filming.
Something that makes no sense to me is why aren’t people complaining on the US side. If this “hum” is coming from Zug Island then why is it just affecting Windsor. I think the most important question is why is it getting louder? If it’s coming from industry did they increase power to the machines or did they add more? Makes no sense.
Filmed in Tampa, probably on the 16th, this pitch black video above has some eerie background noise. The description just says “I didn’t think these noises were real till I heard them myself. Strap up people.” To me it sounds a lot like wind and yet it doesn’t. The witness says there are no interstates or traffic around him. At one point it sounds like he’s urinating in a bucket.
The first thing I do when I find a video that may or may not be real is to look for a matching video from the same time and area. And voila, a match appeared.
This one below was filmed in Hollywood, Florida which is around 260 miles away. The thing the two have in common is the date. This video was recorded in a park behind a railroad station. The witness was waiting for a train and says no one was around. He says it was a clear day and sounded like thunder. I’m not sure if this is a match to the one above or not. I’m not even sure it’s real. It’s included because of the date and location (state) matching with the other.
At first I had no idea what I was looking at with the strange words “trial version need4video.com” right in the middle. Either the trial version adds colors to video or this guy got carried away with the options. He explains that he downloaded video editing software for free and because it’s free they stick their website in the middle.
He explains in the description:
I pulled my cellphone cam but I didn’t really hear the details until I played the video at home, it was totally weird but it distorted too much at high volume so I used freeby codex converter to wmv to allow me to boost the volume by using a compressor/limiter with minimum distortion.
So we really aren’t hearing what he supposedly heard. He may have heard something, but it’s manipulated in an attempt to boost the sound. I’d love to see raw unedited footage, but I’m not sure its worth it.
Okay, something is weird here. Let’s start with the titles. The first one is called:
Strange sounds in Hollywood, Fl. 02/16/2012 by saucerfly
2/18/2012 Weird atmosphere noises in Tampa, FL by elador21
Isn’t it weird the way the titles seem similar?
Now look at the tags:
Strange sounds 2012
Atmosphere noises 2012
Hmmmm. I’m not sure what to make of this. Are they the same people? If so why would they do this?
I know I said I didn’t want to make any ufo connections but I’ve decided when weird lights appear nearby I’m going to include them. Especially this time because once again we have the weird cluster lights as we saw in Phoenix here. At one point in this video below from Homestead, Florida on Feb 16th, they say “can you hear it?” The response was “Maybe it’s a plane that just blew up or something.” A plane appears after the lights fade and they say it seems to be searching. Other people recorded this too. See here and here.

INSERT 1/21: As I expected, the Golden Knights have once again taken credit. In my opinion they need to stop doing these jumps with flares unless it’s an air show. I can’t see any reason to strap on flares and jump at night. Is this a new thing? It sure is happening a lot and every other night. There is no reason I can think of that they should’ve started doing this every night. It’s always going to upset people and it’s not impressive anyway.
——
The thing about these types of “ufos” is they’re often attributed to parachuter’s with flares. These flare jumpers seem to be doing this every night and every time people see weird lights it’s officially explained away as performers called the Golden Knights. A military person commenting on my post about strange lights in Phoenix doesn’t believe these are flares. Here is a video of the parachuters. Not sure they’re the same.
And if you follow ufo sightings at all, Chinese lanterns are usually to blame. These don’t seem like lanterns either.
UPDATE 1/1: I overlooked something important. In the Unsolved Mysteries episode at the end of this post, victim Hal Runiana moved from Detroit to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. I think this is a connection because Windsor is directly across from Michigan. Coincidence? I wonder. What Hal heard couldn’t be recorded. Could it be the “hum” is just more intense in Windsor?
—————–
Two years ago residents of Windsor, Ontario, Canada began experiencing an unexplained humming or vibrating noise. The humming had diminished over the past six months but now it’s returned with greater intensity. A little background here.
It’s been described as an idling diesel engine and residents say the hum disturbs their sleep and is a constant annoyance. One resident claims he can feel it in his chest. A government study claims the vibrations are coming from Zug Island, an industrial area of Michigan here. They recommend more study to pinpoint the source.
Windsor resident Sonya Skillings in a Windsor Star interview here, says:
“We have picture frames on the wall and they were shaking last night,” Sonya Skillings, a mother of two, told The Star Sunday. “It’s never been that bad where we actually had things move on the walls.”
There is talk of legal action, but it’s not clear who to sue. More investigation is needed to pinpoint the source, however that appears to have stalled. Meanwhile, the residents have a real problem without an exact cause or remedy.
I’ve decided to rewrite this post due to new videos of the incident that have surfaced so you may have seen an earlier version. We have two different witness accounts and one news story that doesn’t line up with the two. One of the two sound videos can’t be easily described and the other one is similar to the Kiev sound. In a post below this one I attempted to debunk the Kiev video. I will comment on each video in an order that make sense to me.
Supposedly the sound was heard within a 150 mile radius. The sound was heard from Perez Zeledon to San Carlos at 12:30am. Costa Rican authorities claim there was no seismic activity at that time. Below is a news clip about the event. I don’t speak Spanish but the sound they present in the news video doesn’t sound like the the two videos I will outline below. According to a news article people apparently heard different things depending on where they were located. They either heard rumbles, vibrations or hums.
The news video above shows rapid percussive booms very much like the sound recorded in Colorado in August before the east coast earthquake. According to one witness on Facebook the booms occurred 50 to 100 times in 10 minutes. Below is the video from Colorado. Compare it to the sound in the news clip (the one they show with the moon). Message boards are all a flurry with discussions about this incident. If you read the comments in articles or videos many Costa Ricans are claiming to have heard it. The Colorado video is here. UPDATE: As a commenter on this blog points out, if you listen carefully the news example is EXACTLY the same sound as Colorado, right down to the gravel. Something is very fishy here. Was the local news fooled? Is this a cleverly produced mass fake with planted video/news comments? Did someone submit the dubbed video they presented? Is the media there perpetuating a hoax for ratings? Why was the follow up news explaining it away with fireworks? Why would someone be shooting off high powered fireworks at 12am on a Monday? Is the local news an accomplice? This whole sky noise event is now suspect.
I was wondering when the twin recording for the extremely scary Bucharest occurrence posted below would show up. And here it is! As I stated in the Strange Percussive Boom post, most of the videos have a twin. This means that somebody somewhere recorded the same sound around the same date.
The witness claims that it’s the second night they have heard this sound. They say it was very loud and hard to locate. Unfortunately they are talking way too much which makes it hard to hear the actual sound, but I’ve listened with volume up and I believe it’s the same sound as the video posted below. It seems to be more distant than the Dec 3rd video posting. I think the Dec 3rd video location was ground zero. What’s interesting is that they’ve heard the noise two nights in a row which would make Dec 3rd the first time they heard it.
Believability Scale:| | | | || | | | | plus: similar example has been heard in another location on the same date, you can hear the sound before when the video starts, no related videos or favorites on YT (in fact the last post was 3 years ago), sound is subtle and distant. minus: There is the possibility that these twin videos could be an elaborate hoax, for some reason Eastern Europe and Russia produces a lot of hoaxes, especially strange sound and ufo stuff. We can only look for clues to its credibility and can never prove that anything we have posted is true. This is probably real because I believe in this video that if they were going to fake it the recording would be very loud. It makes sense that they were hearing what occurred in the other video from a distance.
Folks, this one is pretty scary! Filmed in Bucharest the sound started around 1 am and lasted half an hour. As the sky noise increased, the lights in front of their house started flickering as if affected by some sort of unseen energy pulse. Eventually the lights went off completely. You can hear a new sound emerge after the lights go out. They claim that the new sound seemed not to come from the sky but nearby. When they heard this they became frightened and ran back into the house.
This is a first. We have never seen an example of the sound affecting lights. This is a very bold display from whatever is creating these noises. This is differentiated from all other examples because it involves electrical disturbance and changes positions from not just the background or sky, but nearby on the ground! If this video is real it is very notable and a possible turning point for the noise phenomena. Continue Reading
