Item 1: Clintonville Boom Recording?
There isn’t much going on in terms of truly amazing strange sound videos but I do have some interesting tidbits to share. The first is an alleged Clintonville recording posted by an audio engineer who spent time there with the intent of capturing the sound. He claims to have met with the city officials who assisted him in his pursuit. Not everyone is buying his account. I would say with national attention he would be pretty ballsy to hoax this. Given no one with real credentials has been able to record this, I’m skeptical. Here is his explanation.
Here is the supposed recording. He explains his analysis thoroughly.

Item 2: Magnet Makes a “Strange Sound”?
Scientist have created a magnetic field 2 million times stronger than the Earth’s or 100 Tesla. It’s a tool for studying various materials. The sound is heard at 1:37 as they energize the magnet. The magnet vibrates with the electrical currents causing an audible noise.
Going to make a leap here and go back to this video from last month. Notice how this has a similar electrical magnetic sound. The post is here.
A reader Panos had this to say at the time I posted this:
The more we hear these sounds the more i get the feeling that they are the result of some electrostatic discharge. And the fact that they are quite different from one another also points to that direction.
i.e. if the discharge is in the clouds then you get the “sky roar”, if it is in the woods then you get a hissing sound and cracks, if it is from an urban/industrial area or from metallic structures you get more metallic sounds like this one..
I have no idea if there is a connection or even how it relates. The sound is similar though. Thanks for the tip Ines!
MORE AFTER THE JUMP…
Item 3: Intense Thunder?
Once again we have witness accounts of intense thunder described as not sounding like thunder. I did a little post about an incident that was recorded in Woodbury, Minnesota a few weeks ago. The explosive sound brought many people who experienced it to this site searching for explanations. They found this video below.
Now we have an article from Pennsylvania titled That Noise Was not Thunder, Pocono Residents Say here. There were thunderstorms happening at the time but the actual noise is described as a sonic boom. As with the Minnesota event there was a huge flash of light. However, in the Minnesota incident the skies were clear.
There was lots of shaking and it was so intense it actually knocked things off of one person’s countertops. I’ve never heard of thunder so strong it moves objects over surfaces. People were sure it was an earthquake. It was so extreme it actually shook someone’s car while driving.
From the article:
Russo Albuja of Tobyhanna said, “I was driving along 196 on my way home from work when I felt the BOOM. It was so extreme, my car shook and on my left hand side on an empty field – all I saw was this HUGE flash of light coming from where the airport location would be at. Afterwards, I heard nothing. Kinda scared me that I rushed home and locked my doors.”
All this happened over an hour, along a large area at around 10 to 11pm. However, I found this posted to a Philadelphia message board with a thread called Strange noise in the Sky from the same date here.
Did anyone else hear it? Happened from about 2:40am til 3am this morning. Very loud. Sounded like a jet engine hovering over the area. Constant for about 20 min. It was starting to drizzle when it started. Just before the thunder it stopped suddenly. BF walked down the block to see what it was but couldnt tell the location and it was too cloudy to see the sky. But he said it sounded like it definitely was coming from the sky. Really creepy..
Response:
I heard it. I was loud like the wind of a hurricane only no wind. I was thinking maybe it was some kind of big gas leak from the gas company but it was strange. I would have went out to look but with the weather i figured what could i see anyway if it was a UFO. Strange as loud as it was there was no reporting on it.
It would seem they heard a “sky roar” (see here). This was heard only a few hours after the explosive sound. I want to say the jet noise sounds are related to weather but as in this video below from Las Vagas there is no bad weather.
Filmed in Las Vegas on March 24th, it lasted 30 minutes. Other people commented on this video saying:
I was in Las Vegas on 3/23/2012 and heard a series of loud booms in the middle of the day
Okay, this is weird. Have you heard any LARGE booming noises? That come with shaking or rumbling? The booming noises and rattling has been going on for several weeks now… I live in Southern Highlands area….
That is EXACTLY the date that several of them were heard!! I called Metro, as well as Nellis, and Nellis claims it was NOT them. Metro has NO clue what they are. And they also said there were dozens of reports on strange booming sounds. Nellis said they were doing Red Flag exercises but not during that time. The booms happened again today at 5:07 pm. First time I have ever heard them during the evening hours.
Now we are starting to see a combination of “constant jet sounds” and “booms” in the same areas around the same times.

Item 4: Strange Sound or Crazy Lady?
Just kidding. A woman in Bradford UK has had to leave her home of 15 years because of a constant droning that started last September. She recently moved to her mother’s house because the noise was driving her “insane”.
This has been investigated by officials many times and it can’t be detected. She says anyone visiting will feel “pressure in their ears”. Since she doesn’t hear the noise when she leaves the house there may be something to it. The article is here.
Item 5: Does Jay Man believe in God?
Yesterday I read on a message board that some think I’m an atheist because I refuse to associate these sounds with “end times”. They said I needed to be prayed for. I chuckled at this because I do believe in God or rather I like the idea. My faith involves this combination:
- The inherent worth and dignity of every person;
- Justice, equity and compassion in human relations;
- Acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth;
- A free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
- The right of conscience and the use of the democratic process in society at large;
- The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all;
- Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
A free and responsible search for truth and meaning is having deep questions and dedicating yourself to pursuing new answers without fear.

I don’t think it was a “leap”, I find the 100 Tesla magnet experiment sounded eerily similar to the sky dragon sounds. Which makes me wonder if those sounds are associated with the earth’s magnetic poles possibly starting to shift. I certainly gave me pause.
Many possible explanations and it is something that should be discussed. Don’t let others limit your inquisitiveness.
We need a crash course in the use of the term conspiracy. There has been a restriction of the terms of debate inspired by the control media aided by the brain washed multitudes. It is time to regain freedom of thought which should be the core of a dignified society and kick the habit of labeling anything they do not understand as a conspiracy. Conspiracy is the language of the fascist and the uninformed and usually directed at the informed citizen.
Dissent is not paranoia and truth is not mental deficiency. Dictators throughout the aeons have known the power of key words to blunt free thinkers. Using this term is in many cases the last refuge of the marginal intellect.
Un-paralled information that has never been widely disseminated before has flooded internet. Those with a desire to step into the sunlight have been able to do so and the mind lock of the ages is fast subsiding. 57% of American people now only trust alternative internet news. 70% want the wars stopped.

Excellent comment! Thank you.
this is a great series on developing a more functional understanding of conspiracy.
I’ll see your leap and raise you another one.
Look up the dates when the noise was loudest in Clintonville. Now look up the solar activity report for those dates. Sun fires a CME, and for the next 2 days people report weird magnetic noises. I have noticed at least three other CMEs this year that seem to correspond with the reports of strange noises around the world.
Thoughts?
I’m going to comment on that last bit… the part about God… in a ddition to sound engineering I’m also an ordained pastor. It’s my official belief that not a single sound every recorded has anything to do with the end of the world. People who claim any of these “strange sounds” are the “trumpets of doom” or anything of the sort are nothing more then fear mongers trying to stir up panic and paranoia. Theologically I could go into a very long and often rehearsed rant about the dangers of misinterperetation and imagination combined with Scripture.. but it wouldn’t do any good… fear mongers live for this stuff.
Thank you!
I live on the Island of Hawaii and we do sometimes get thunder strong enough it will knock pictures off walls and shake you awake. Rare but it does happen.
Here’s an interesting notion regarding magnetic fields, sound waves and “strange sounds” like trumpet noises and such… I met a girl last night who playes the theremin, it’s an odd instrument that is played by waving your hand through a magnetic field.. moving one direction changes the volume and the other direction changes the pitch. It makes a really “spacey” high pitched, almost whistling sound. It’s what they used to perform the theme song from the original 1960′s Star Trek TV show. Do a YouTube search for theremin, they’re pretty cool! I don’t claim to be much of a scientist away from a sound desk, but given the video above, maybe something like this is able to happen in nature under the right conditions??
Apparently, WI booms have now spread to baraboo.

Also, just to let you know where I first heard of you, though I’ve been here on occasion. Someone on LA Marzulli’s blog posted a link to you and the sky sounds, and I’ve been keeping an eye over here since. No one else I logging this stuff, so thanks.
Whoa, it’s getting weirder. Thank you!
No prob.
It is indeed getting weirder my friend. I’d love to know what’s going on.
In the video from Las Vegas on YouTube, I was the one who left two comments on that video. I also called Nellis AFB, as well as Metro and all the area surrounding mines and quarries to see If maybe they were causing these sounds. Even the local news have had complaints and they have yet to find out what is making these sounds. They are still happening here in Vegas. And we still don’t know what is causing them…
Thanks!
The gentleman who recorded the boom audio is a friend of mine and has been for almost 7 years. We used to work at a radio station together. He’s been keeping me in the loop about his efforts in Clintonville, and as far as his reputation goes, he’s one of the most honest people I know.
Thanks. If the city of Clintonville thinks it’s the real deal so do I. And they do.
I am the one who recorded the Clintonville boom. I’m fascinated by those that don’t believe that my recording is real. I totally respect skepticism, for any one to blindly believe everything they hear around the proverbial water cooler or in the internet is a fool. But It becomes easier for me to put more credence to something that has been analyzed by professional scientific organizations. Such is the case of my recording. It has been analyzed by the USGS and other geology professionals who confirm that the recording is legitimate. This is not to say that any opinion by held by anyone with a PHD. is the has the end all say all on the matter but none the less. Lets examine any motive I would have to hoax this. Its not like I’m claiming that my recording is one of a UFO backfiring. what would I have to gain out of a hoax? I’m not an author drumming up interest for my latest book about underground military installations. When I originally drove to Clintonville, on the night of the first town meeting on the matter, I though I would find many geologists and researchers that I might be able to tag along with. But to my surprise, after speaking to the county emergency coordinator, I found out that there were none. After I explained my intentions to Andrew Carlin (emergency coordinator) I was introduced to the chief of police and the city administrator. All of whom were very helpful. You see, at that time they had been told by I think two different geophysicists that the seismometer that is located 40 mi away in Shawano county did pick up some activity but it was not indicative of any normal earthquake they were aware of. And they had ruled out natural gas and all other likely causes. So the Booms were unexplained, and they had many very curious / freighted citizens. I explained to the city officials that if I could record what the towns people had been hearing that there was a chance that by analyzing the “sound envelope” (the shape of the waveform) we could learn something more about the cause of noise. And so they felt that my efforts were worth their time to help me out. in fact it appears that my recording did help geologists in a small way. One geoscience Proff. at University of Wisconsin Green Bay though that the event was happening close to the surface, due to the distinct sharp attack, quick decay of the waveform. Unfortunately I did not have the proper microphones to pick up any infrasonic frequencies ( frequencies below human range of hearing), which seems to me where much of the “attack” is. Wish I had a better recording to analyze. Since that trip I have been back to Clintonville two or three times and have been unsuccessful in recording another event. Although during my second to last trip I heard several booms over the time-span of 45min to 1hr. these booms were coming from a distance and were practically inaudible. I hope this background info. will help anyone that thinks this recording is hoaxed understand that it’s not.
On another note, as far as my opinion of the cause of these booms, if anyone is interested. When I first saw the story online (i think March 20) I thought they might be the “strange sky sounds” that I had been hearing about. That is what I expected on my initial trip up to Clintonville. Once I got to the town meeting I head these people describe what they had been experiencing. Some of them were very frightened. I learned that the sound is coming from ground not the sky. this dispelled my idea of the “strange sky sound”. After gathering several personal accounts I began to think of the following possible culprits: undocumented mining operations there for illegal mining operations, some sort of geologic activity that WI hasn’t seen for a long long time, or (thinking of ALL possibilities, I know i’m going out on a limb here) even some type of weather/ HARRP experiment. As far this last possibility I did see and photograph what appears to be chem trails on my return home from the first trip up. I also spoke to some inquisitive authority figures who seemed suspiciously out of place. After more research and reading about the sudden increase of earthquakes throughout the Midwest region of the U.S. I put more credence behind the mining operation cause. As it turns out there is a considerable amount of evidence linking a mining technique referred to as “wast water wells”. From my limited knowledge on the subject I understand that there is a particular type of mining operation that injects is wast water into the ground. This causes an increase of pressure in the rock and therefore causes small earthquakes. The one hitch to this idea is that I have not been able to find any mining operation in WI that would use this technique. Wis. sand is HIGHLY desirable for use in natural gas fracking, but the sand mines are just a big holes in the ground. So beyond that I think there is one other possibility. There was a series of booms along the east coast of the U.S. and stretching up into Canada in the late 70′s that is very simaler to what is being heard in WI. The frequency and intensity of these event were so that president Carter ordered and investigation on the matter. There is a good article about this on the Chicagomag.com titled: The Mistpouffers of Clintonville, Wisconsin: A Brief History of Brontides, Icequakes, and Other Mysterious Booms. I think that Bruntides could be the cause. As i understand it, this is an understudied phenomenon. If bruntides are the cause of the Clintonville booms to my understanding I may have been the first to capture one in a recording. So that’s kind of cool, but who knows for sure. Sorry about the lengthy post.
I wanted to appologise for the the video on YT I took down. I made a few videos of myself talking to the camera about my experiance chaseing the booms. After a few weeks and some unecoraging comments about the content of the video I took it down after I posted the recording. In the videos I took down, I had been up all the previous nights and was sort of rambeling, kind of like the rant I just posted. Any way if any of you are that interested in them I would concider posting them on this site alone.
there is a potential scientific explanation at Geochange journal. I had a very frightening sound experience about 10 years ago, absolutely the most unfamiliar sound ive ever heard, incredibly loud, mechanical yet roaring with a somewhat syncopated call and response type sound coming from near the ground.
