Since the Costa Rica, Conklin and Malaysia videos have hit the internet there is a frenzy of searching for info on these events. This site has already gotten 15,000 hits today. There is also a slew of fakes being created. It is my personal opinion that Costa Rica is a grand hoax, Conklin is probably a hoax and Malaysia is real. See the posts below for my reasons. It is also my personal opinion that the below videos in this post are copycats. Some are even meant to be spoofs. (Insert 1/17: A sure give away, not necessarily heard in these below, is a “tink” sound. Like someone is dropping a metal bar on concrete. This is from the Kiev video. If you hear this in any metallic sound video you can dismiss it as a fake.)

So, I looked at these videos from an audio-guys standpoint, and most of them seem pretty fishy.
I downloaded the videos, extracted the sound and analysed it using super secret pro audio toolz (Audacity):
Manitoba: This one is pretty ridiculous. The sounds don’t even sound like they where recorded with the rest of the audio. They even have a bit of digital delay added, which makes this even more obvious. Listen to the last part, after 41 seconds.
The sounds simply don’t fit in. A cityscape like this would have very spread out/distant reflections. So, lots and lots of subtle reverb. Listen to the hammer tapping.
Also, the sounds are too clean. You could never get a sound this clean with a camera mic. Especially on the low end. It’s just too good.
Ohh, and if you speed them up they sound exactly like when you scrape metal stuff with a violin bow. Add some digital reverb and delay, and you got it.
Dawson Creek:Speed it up, and its just some animal noises (sounds like a fucking safari). Boring. Also, a slowed down crash cymbal at 42 seconds. WTF? This was clearly added in post (well no shit), since it’s frequencies reach up beyond 10khz, and the camera recording already stops at 5.5 khz. And again, knowing how bad camera mics are at picking up low frequencies, these sounds would have to very loud to appear this clear.
Alberta: The supposed volume (it would have to be very loud to be able to be heard in an entire forest) simply does not fit with the reverb and frequency range of the sound. It sounds like it was played from small shitty speakers (mobile phone) next to the camera. Here the total lack of low end is suspicious. The sound bottoms out at around 500hz, and even a shitty camera can do better than that.
If you speed it up, it sounds like the same metal scraping sounds from the first video.
Kiev: Same thing as with the first video. (Insert: Actually Kiev came first) Almost exactly the same sounds/method.
Again, frequency response of camera does not fit with the sounds. Notice how the “tinnyness” of the camera mic is completely absent from the sounds? It just sounds too good. The Alberta guys at least made it sound shitty. Come on guys… You can do better than that.
Also, nobody else notices the sounds? They just keep an walking while it sounds like Godzilla is raping their city? Come on.
Denmark:No idea, could be anything. Sounds good and really fits into the video. Then again, if nobody hat told me to notice the “strange sound”, I probably would not have even thought about it.
Montreal: What the fuck people, this is exactly the same sound that has been overlayed onto the first video. Come on. At least put some more effort into it. The delay/echo at the end is even more obvious in this one.
Virginia: No idea, but does definitely not sound like it’s coming from the ground. And a high pitched, hissy, sound definitely does not feel “like the ground was shaking”. When you speed it up, it sounds a bit like air escaping from something, or blowing over something.
Also, who would record a video like that? This is stupid.
Colorado: Just some sound effect overlayed onto the video. The stereo position does not even change when he turns around. It’s always exactly the same sound. Always comes from the right, even when he turns around. Bad. They could have at least added some panning to the thing.
Costa Rica: No idea. The first and second part sound pretty good. The last part seems a bit strange, but the loud click at 1:35 correctly applied dynamic range compression to both the background noise and the strange sounds. This seems like something you would easily miss when adding sounds in post. Then again, they could have just recorded it from some speakers.
I completely agree with the Chicago one being fake. I’ve listened to the Kiev one so many times, I know it by heart. Thank you so much for outing the fakes! I watched one the other day that almost sounded real until I heard the digitized ufo laser sounds. If I find it again, I’ll forward the link.
Now I’m off to watch the rest of them!

by the way, notice the dog’s behavior and barks and yips – he’s (or she) is wagging their tail – and he/she doesn’t sound scared to me. – hope that’s an arctic dog – and that’s an awful short chain – poor dog. Mine was a husky who like being outdoors, but at least she had a whole garage to be in. – The yips and barks in the video is because their owner is hanging out the window making a video.

The latest one found on my Costa Rica news site at http://www.costaricanewssite.com was recorded on my employees iPhone. This is without a doubt authentic as it has to similarities to any of the other sounds. I believe it to be authentic.
However, that being said I feel most of the other ones coming out recently are all faked – taken audio from the Kiev video. Im sure there all for the most part fakes.

I recorded a strange sound coming from the sky in the early hours. Its the second time i have heard it. It sounded more like a mechanical sucking sound, was very loud, and very strange. I put it up on YouTube and it is definatly not a fake. No explanation to what it is, and to be honest i dont really care. It was just strange, and it did sound like some other videos up there.. It didn’t sound like a fog horn as i’ve heard on a couple of videos..

If you wear headphones it sounds a lot better or you will need half decent speakers. The picture is a bit rubbish, but it was 2:30 am and i only have an i-phone 3GS and just had to aim the camera where there was some light. anaylise it, download it, re-copy it, do whatever with it. Have fun
Well, we do have birds in Edmonton in winter, especially in the unseasonably warm weather we were enjoying at the time of the recording. The monkeys do usually head south though……

Believe in reasoning. I believe in lots of things, for example that some sky noises are true. If you’re looking to believe in things that are provable as false, how can you expect to protect yourself from deceivers.
Willfull blindness is not only stupid but dangerous. I live in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada and I as well as another parent at my daughters school have heard these recently. I realize fear of the unknown will drive people to try and debunk anything that might be unexplainable, but sometimes you gotta man up and tell yourself, “something is up.” I’ll trust my own ears over some anonymous audio “expert”, any day of the week.
Btw, Edmonton does have birds in the winter. All of Alberta does. There are birds in the arctic circle ffs.

well…i’m not sure what this sight is out to prove, or disprove, but i’m willing to give my two cents. first off, whether or not any of these videos are hoaxes is irrelevant to me, as i am one of the many who heard the noises with my own ears. i understand the tendency towards skepticism in such mind-boggling matters, and i must admit that if i hadn’t heard the noises myself, i would likely, also, be a skeptic. what you’re referring to as the ‘Kiev’ sound effects are pretty close to what i heard in tatamagouche, nova scotia. so perhaps the reason so many of these videos sound alike is because the sounds WERE alike. and perhaps the reason bird sounds are present in many of these videos is because birds are present in many regions across the world…even in winter! if i were you, i would spend more time looking at the possibilities of truth and less time lingering in the gap. i find i learn more that way.
there are some fakes out there that use the keiv audio layered over there visuals.. I do believe things are happening. .
there are ALOT of fakes out there and its a shame because im really interested in this kind of stuff and when fakes happen the vast community discredits the real footage as fake aswell

Great site. It would be helpful to decompose the site into two sections 1) Plausible and 2) Phoney.
Yesterday my neighbor stated that while at work the day before, a location about 20 miles from our neighborhood where months before I described a roaring burner type noise, he had heard same type of noise during the day, in the same general direction.
I note with interest 1) There is currently a great deal of solar and geomagnetic activity 2) The Tallahassee event was followed up by a NOAA weather report on the incident suggesting that “ducting” phenomenon was the cause.
Think about those Bunsen burner flame speaker experiments you did in high school and the history of roaring noise reports associated with Aurora Borealis , Also remember that “ducting” involves tropospheric layers which can enhance propagation of radio wave sand light (mirages). I believe we may have a real phenomenon going on.
I will not stick my neck out for any video except the Manitoba one. The one main thing that clinches it for me is the dog’s terrified reaction (people saying he doesn’t look scared, are you effing serious? takes some serious shit to reduce a BULLDOG into a quivering, yelping puppy). They don’t wag their tails just when they’re happy, sometimes also when they’re in a state of agitation, the pacing back and forth…Unless he’s a talented show dog who was trained to act all anxious while his master films him, and nobody’s brought that up yet.
Not one to be easily unnerved….but this shit makes me feel weird…some fake, some deff seem real.. all we can do is wait and see if we hear it for ourselves. Just know, if it is end times…and society is collapsing ima cut you up and steal your sandwhiche
I was on duty during the august 2011 riots and myself and my colleague heard the banging/booming drum like sound that has been hears in some places and that was in London. We thought it may have been fireworks but thinking about it now every boom was the same and we even joked that Godzilla was going to appear any second. It’s only since seeing all the clips that it has made me think it could have been something more than fireworks. Also another strange incident. I was at my nan’s with my boyfriend when we heard a very loud rumbling sound in the sky, again thought it was fireworks but it was so loud yet there was no light in the sky
From any fireworks. I said then and there that it sounded like a mid sky battle. I have no idea what these strange noises are and I hope we find out soon.

it may seem a clichè but the dog reacts to the sound and barks…and there are interferences in the sound that the camera captured, so i think this means it’s real and came from the environment around…i am a skeptic…but i’m kind creeped out…there may be a lot of fakes…but some of them just seem too real
and the, again in the same day a video from Setubal, a city nearby Lisbon, captured the same noise but not so intense

i just wanted to say that i’m an atheist (but i respect all beliefs and religions), and a skeptic, and that i ten to analise this things, try to look for facts and proofs…i really believe some of these sounds are real and we don’t know what it is and it scares the shit out of us, we naturally fear the unknown (it’s an instinct), just look troughout the history of humanity and you will get it…anyway, it is something and it has an explanation, we don’t know it yet..some say it’s the apocalypse, other think it’s extraterrestrial, other think it may come from the earth…just put your beliefs aside and try to look at the real thing…don’t be a maniatic believer and do not ignore proof by being too skeptic…stay rational and real…i’m just sayin’

While I don’t think they are all hoaxes, many, many are. People should not be freaking out. It may just be some normal noises people are attributing to abnormal things.
A lot of these are fakes, but some of them are not. The Tampa Bay Rays Game was real, I assure you. I live in Tampa. Also, my friend called me when one was happening in washington state. I live in Brampton, Ontario Canada and I’ve heard strange sky noises for the last 3 months as well..these happened at around 12-3am. It was like the sound of a plane but no plane I’ve ever heard before….actually our house in in a air traffic zone so we get a lot of planes overhead and I’m used to the noise but these noises are totally different…they’re more vibrating loud noises that come and go and then come again and nothing else. I noticed these sounds and talked to people before I even knew that it had become a global phenomenon in 2012.
