THESE BAFFLING SOUNDS MAKE NO SENSE
I’ve decided to rewrite this post due to new videos of the incident that have surfaced so you may have seen an earlier version. We have two different witness accounts and one news story that doesn’t line up with the two. One of the two sound videos can’t be easily described and the other one is similar to the Kiev sound. In a post below this one I attempted to debunk the Kiev video. I will comment on each video in an order that make sense to me.
Supposedly the sound was heard within a 150 mile radius. The sound was heard from Perez Zeledon to San Carlos at 12:30am. Costa Rican authorities claim there was no seismic activity at that time. Below is a news clip about the event. I don’t speak Spanish but the sound they present in the news video doesn’t sound like the the two videos I will outline below. According to a news article people apparently heard different things depending on where they were located. They either heard rumbles, vibrations or hums.
The news video above shows rapid percussive booms very much like the sound recorded in Colorado in August before the east coast earthquake. According to one witness on Facebook the booms occurred 50 to 100 times in 10 minutes. Below is the video from Colorado. Compare it to the sound in the news clip (the one they show with the moon). Message boards are all a flurry with discussions about this incident. If you read the comments in articles or videos many Costa Ricans are claiming to have heard it. The Colorado video is here. UPDATE: As a commenter on this blog points out, if you listen carefully the news example is EXACTLY the same sound as Colorado, right down to the gravel. Something is very fishy here. Was the local news fooled? Is this a cleverly produced mass fake with planted video/news comments? Did someone submit the dubbed video they presented? Is the media there perpetuating a hoax for ratings? Why was the follow up news explaining it away with fireworks? Why would someone be shooting off high powered fireworks at 12am on a Monday? Is the local news an accomplice? This whole sky noise event is now suspect.
Also look at the one below that explains it away as fireworks occurring at 12:00am or the same time that the incident was documented as happening. The usual explanations are being offered by the authorities, namely jet or fireworks. Nice try but people aren’t stupid, they can tell the difference. The distance alone makes that unlikely. Of course the chorus of apocalyptic doom is singing its head off with predictions of the end and trumpets of angels and so forth.
Here is one below that creeps me out. It sounds a little like the Kiev video in some ways. The description says it was 12:45am which lines up with the documented time and date. This one is somewhat convincing, in fact it gives me chills, hoax or not. It sounds like vibrations and as the religious people claim, “trumpets”.
And finally this one below doesn’t fit the puzzle at all. I have no idea how to describe it other than wind and ocean which they claim is nowhere nearby. However, it is the one with the most YT hits. Since Jan 9th, as of 4:00pm Jan 12th, it has 67,000 hits!
I don’t get this sound event at all. Why would all the sounds be different heard in different locations. It is possible that the percussive boom sounds, perhaps caused by fireworks having caused a stir, gave hoaxers a chance to take advantage of the public attention. On the other hand I can’t say for sure. I personally don’t buy the Kiev sound type videos but these do seem convincing and judging by the video comments section, had a lot of people upset. Many claims of hearing these three sounds seem to back up the credibility. You decide.

That sound in the first video sounds exactly like the Colorado video, even to the point that you could hear the gravel moving from the guy walking.
I’ve been watching videos and checking out this blog for hours, and man, I’m getting freaked out. What in the world is going on? What kind of phenomenon makes that kind of sound, be it man or nature?! O.o
Here are reports on similar phenomena from three major news outlets:
New York Times:

Thanks for all those links Seamus!!
I don’t think that the actual occurrence of the noise heard in Costa Rica is a hoax rather that the news station used the sound from the Colorado occurrence as any news source would use stock video of a tornado or lightning strike etc. As someone who speaks fluent Spanish, the news caster nor anyone reporting on this story ever claimed that the noise heard was the exact noise played but was rather quite similar. I don’t think that you guys should be so quick to dismiss the incident as simply a hoax.

i saw a video that show the sound of a supernova. The sound appear very with the sound of the first video:
I picked up on this topic from one of the forums I am on. The opinions there are mixed. I am going to pay attention to the sky I think for the next little while. I live on an acreage in southern Alberta and you can hear a pin drop if there is no wind. I can promiss you that if I ever hear something like any of these videos claim, I will record it and there would be no BS. This site will be the first place it is sent. Luckily there is lots of work in the area, oil/gas drilling, siesmic crews, logging, etc. Hopefully this can be proven real or fake soon.
Be sure to see the top post in this blog. This has been thoroughly debunked.
